The Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church of Gainesville will host a Back to School youth rally Friday, Aug. 18, beginning at 7 p.m. The evening will include prayers for staff, students and community as the new school year begins. Snacks will be served after the event.

Area churches are asked to encourage their youth to attend this event. Parents are also invited. Pastors will pray for specific needs with the young people. “We want to lift up not only the students but staff, administration and board,” said organizer Linda Hannaford of Lilly Ridge Church.

The event will begin with performances by the Teen Harvest Youth Band from Ava and 14-year-old Gracyn Blackburn, a freshman at Gainesville High School, followed by guest speaker, Davin Friend. The theme of the event is “I am a child of God” using Galatians 3:26 as the scripture.

T-shirts featuring the “I am a child of God” theme will be sold at the event, with all profits going to the Gainesville chapter of Care To Learn, a program designed to help students with health, hygiene and hunger needs. Youth sizes and adult sizes up to XL are $10 each. XXL and larger are $12 each. Drawings will be held for T-shirts, CDs and other items. For more information, call Linda Hannaford at 417-543-3359.
